MUKTINATH PACKAGE

Situated at an altitude of 3,710 meters (12,172 feet) at the base of the Thorong La mountain pass in the Mustang district, Muktinath is a highly venerated sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists.

Hindus call the site Mukti Kshetra, which literally means the “place of salvation” and it is one of the most ancient temples of the God Vishnu and the Vaishnava tradition in Nepal. The shrine is considered to be one of the eight sacred places known as Svayam Vyakta Ksetras (the other seven being Srirangam, Srimushnam, Tirupati, Naimisharanya, Totadri, Pushkar and Badrinath), as well as one of the 108 Divya Desam, or holy places of worship of Lord Vishnu. Additionally, it is also one of the 51 Shakti Pitha goddess sites.

The temple is small and contains a human-sized golden statue of Vishnu as Shri Mukti Narayana. In addition to Mukti Narayana, the temple has bronze images of Bhoodevi (the Earth-goddess form of Lakshmi), the goddesses Saraswati and Janaki (Sita), Garuda (the mount of Vishnu), Lava-Kusa (the sons of Rama and Sita) and the Sapta Rishis (Seven Sages created by Lord Brahma).

Buddhists call Muktinath Chumming Gyatsa, which in Tibetan means ‘Hundred Waters’. According to Tibetan Buddhism Chumig Gyatsa is a sacred place of the Dakinis goddesses known as Sky Dancers, and also one of the 24 celebrated Tantric places. Additionally, the site is believed to be a manifestation of Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and Virtue. The Tibetan Buddhist tradition states that Guru Rimpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, meditated here on his way to Tibet.

After completing prayers and worship at the Muktinath temple many pilgrims, both Hindu and Buddhist, visit Mebar Lha Gomba, the small monastery of `miraculous fire’, which is situated near the entrance gate of the temple. This monastery, dedicated to Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhava) and containing a statue of the Buddhist deity Chenrezig (Avalokitesvara), is famous for its continuously burning natural gas fire, which Hindus worship as Jwala Mai, the Goddess of Fire.

Paragliding

The main area for flying in Nepal is the Annapurna region, more specifically the Pokhara valley. This lakeside town is Nepal’s second “city”, nestled at the foot of the Annapurna Himal, the views commanded from here, of 3 of the worlds 8000m peaks, are unsurpassed. At an altitude of 800m ASL the subtropical climate means that, year round, it is short and T-shirt weather. The micro-climate of the valley makes it an ideal area for flying, with far more constant conditions than the Kathmandu valley 150km east.

There are several sites around Phewa Tal (the lake) but the most accessible is Sarangkot (1500m ASL). A view point 700m above Pokhara, it is unique in that it has a road running to the top. A short walk brings you to the take off. With regular cycles providing easy reverse launches, you could not ask for a more picturesque site. With the lake 2000ft below, the mountains behind, and the unlimited potential for XC and out and returns, this has quickly become the main site for the area, and many pilots have based themselves in Pokhara for the season, flying from this mountain alone.

paragladding

There are an abundance of other sites around the valley but all need to be walked up. With names such as Dikie Danda, Devi’s Falls, Poomdi and Matepani, all can be connected by air from Sarangkot.

But now, a new sensation has begun Mountain Biking.

Have you ever wondered how would it be to ride alongside some of the tallest mountains in the world? Or crisscross the hundreds of valleys, inhabited by the indigenous people whose lifestyle has remained unchanged for centuries, through terraced fields, rice paddies, rivers and jungles.

This site brings you information on mountain biking in Nepal, the mystical place with 10 of the 14 tallest mountains in the world.

See Nepal on a mountain bike. You will love it ! BikeNepal believe that bikes are the most versatile way of seeing Nepalese rural lifestyle and exploring “off the beaten track.”

Join us for a bike ride and we will guarantee you the highlights of your entire stay in Nepal.

Monsoon:-Mid June to late September – Expect lots of rain and very humid and hot riding conditions with limited to no views of the Himalaya. Alas, if you are a mudlark, you will love riding in Nepal at this time of year. Lots of slippery muddy trails, river crossings and well….mud! Plus its green and very beautiful and the best time to get a good insight into the rural culture of Nepal.

Winter:- October to the end of January – Peak tourist seasons falls in these months. the weather will progressively get colder and colder. But it remains dry for the most part and sunny, clear days with light afternoon winds make for ideal riding conditions. The big bonus at this time of year is that you are almost always guaranteed mountain views and all tracks and trails will be more accessible once the monsoon has left. The day light also lessens as winter progresses limiting the distance you can cover in a day.

Spring/Summer: – February to May – A beautiful time of year in Nepal for greenery and wildflowers. The weather gets progressively hotter by May, before the monsoon can make riding tough and a very sweaty affair! The hot sun can be very intense around midday. Also there is some chance of rain and light showers.

Tibet – Though Tibet remains dry most of the year, given the barren terrain and high altitude, by far the best time for biking is from May to the end of October. Cycling outside of this time is also possible but temperatures can get well below freezing, icy headwinds can hinder your progress and some of the higher passes may be covered in snow.

Ladahk – Ladahk has a very distinct season for tourists and biking and that falls from the end of June to the end of October. Travel and biking outside of this time frame is almost impossible as roads and passes are almost always closed due to snow.

Bungee Jumping

Nepal’s first bungee jumping site is situated 160m over the wild Bhote Koshi River. It is located close to the Nepal-Tibet border, a three-hour bus travel from Kathmandu. As of now, there is only one agency offering this sport. The jump, at 160m, was designed by one of New Zealand’s leading bungee consultants, and is operated by some of the most experienced jump masters in the business. It’s mishap-proof. The agency takes safety very seriously.

Location
It is less than 3 hours outside of Kathmandu Valley. You will travel the Araniko (Kathmandu/Lhasa) Highway to within 12km of the Tibet Border and the famous Friendship Bridge.

The Gorge
Cross Culture Trekking takes place on a 166m wide steel suspension bridge over the Bhote Koshi River.

The Bridge
Swiss designed, especially for bungee jumping with a 4x safety factor. The bridge has a loading factor of 250kg per running meter. This means that the bridge will hold 250 x 166 = 41,500kg or 4.5 tones. Over 6000 meters of steel wire is used to build the longest suspension bridge in Nepal. The bridge joins two sides of a great valley. Before its construction, locals walked five hours to cross this river gorge

Imagine a bridge 160 meters above a tropical gorge with the Bhote Koshi River, one of Nepal’s wildest rivers raging below; close your eyes and JUMP!!

It is located within a reach of 3 hours outside Kathmandu and just 12 km away from the Tibet Border. The Bungee Bridge happens to be the only privately owned bridge in Nepal. It has been specially designed for bungee jumping with a 4x-safety factor and has a loading factor of 41,500 kg or 4.5 tons according to Swiss measurements. The Bhote Koshi appeared a mere stream! One would have to be totally insane or suicidal twisted to jump off the remarkable 500-ft (160 m) drop into the Bhote Koshi River gorge.

It is advised to empty the pockets and not take any intoxicants before the jump. Everyone is weighed before the fall is made, to use different cords for different categories of weights. The Green, Red and Black cords are used for the lightest, the heavier and the heavyweights accordingly. Adrenaline begins to rush as you jump.

Nepal Highlights (Kathmandu – Lumbini – Pokhara – Chitwan)

Standards bearing the double-triangle flag of Nepal flank the statue, while on each side of the palace gate are gaudy stone lions, one ridden by Shiva, the other by his wife Parvati. Above the gate a brightly painted niche is illustrated with a central figure of a ferocious Tantric version of Krishna. On the left side is the gentler Hindu Krishna in his traditional blue colour accompanied by two of his comely gopi (milkmaids). On the other side are King Pratap Malla and his queen.

The Hanuman Dhoka originally housed 35 courtyards, but the 1934 earthquake reduced the palace to today’s 10 chowks (courtyards).

Assuming that the palace reopens, your first taste of the royal palace will be this handsome courtyard inside the main entrance. Nasal Chowk was constructed in the Malla period, but many of the buildings around the square are later Rana constructions. During the Rana period, Nasal Chowk was used for coronations, a practice that continued until as recently as 2001 with the crowning of King Gyanendra here. The former coronation platform stands in the centre of the courtyard, while the damaged Basantapur (Kathmandu) Tower looms over the southern end of the courtyard.

Beyond the door is the large Narsingha Statue, Vishnu in his man-lion incarnation, in the act of disembowelling a demon. The stone image was erected by Pratap Malla in 1673 and the inscription on the pedestal explains that he placed it here for fear that he had offended Vishnu by dancing in a Narsingha costume. The Kabindrapur Temple in Durbar Square was built for the same reason.

Kathmandu Chitwan Pokhara

Pokhara is Nepal’s number 1 adventure and leisure city, a trekking gateway to the Annapurna’s with plenty of entertainment for individual travellers as well as families with kids.

In Pokhara you can experience the best in trekking, boating, hiking, pony rides, paragliding or simply relax at one of the lakes near the city with the stunning Annapurna mountain range at the background.

Pokhara will overwhelm you with one of the greatest photo spots in the world. While you walk along the shores of the Fewa lake you will be surrounded by a panoramical view over  the Himalayan peaks of the Annapurna Massif that reflect in this lake. A beautiful color combination that is created by the wooden boats and paragliders that are sailing, flying and rowing over the lake is probably going to be one of the highlights of your travel experience in Nepal.

Mustang, a land where the soul of the man is still considered to be as real as the feet he walks on: a land said to be “barren as a dead deer” but where beauty and happiness abound is spite of hardship, was a part of the Tibetan Kingdom of Gungthang until 1830’s. The wall city of Lo Monthang, unofficial capital of Mustang still remains a kingdom within a kingdom. The early history to Lo Monthang is embellished in myth and legend rather than the recorded fact. Buddhist, Hindu and Jain pilgrims from the world over go to this holy mountain to circumambulate rather than scale the 22,028- foot high peak. Hindus who walk around the 32-mile circumference of Mt Kailash use the term parikrama. They believe that Lord Shiva, one of their three main gods, resides atop what they call Mt Meru. Tibetans refer to the clockwise circumambulation as a kora. Both words mean the same thing pilgrimage. Walking around the mountain can wash away a lifetimes worth of sins.
